Lessons Learned about Organization

My Genius project has been a great learning experience for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire process from start to finish. When I first began this project, my main goal was to organize my tool space. Now that I have reached the end of this project, I realized that I learned much more than just how to store and organize my tools properly.

The biggest thing I learned about myself is that I work best when I take my time to plan before starting a project. In the past, I would often rush into building projects right away and figure things out as I went. This Genius hour project taught me that when I take time to research, measure and plan ahead, I can save myself a lot of time and frustration later. This project also showed me that staying organized makes work and life more enjoyable.

The part I enjoyed the most was seeing my progress over time. My tool space started as a very messy and unorganized space. It was very satisfying to see it organized and functional. Take a look at the picture below! I also enjoyed the research process. It was fun and helpful to visit Home Depot and search online for different layouts and designs. I can now enjoy a space that feels practical, organized and easy to work in !

One of the biggest challenges I faced during this project was feeling overwhelmed by the number of organization options available. It was difficult to decide which organizational system to use and where everything should go. My garage is not very big, so I had to carefully plan how to make the most of the space. It took time to figure out what would fit and work best. I had to rearrange and adjust my setup several times before it finally worked.

If I were to complete this project again, I would start by taking measurements and photos right at the beginning. This would have helped me create a better plan from the start. I would also set aside more time each week to work on the project so I wouldn’t feel rushed.

Now that my setup is complete, I plan to continue improving my tool organization system as needed. As I take on new projects and add new tools, I will adjust my setup to keep it practical and organized. I also plan to share what I learned with my friends and family to help them organize their spaces too !

Thanks for following along on my Genius Hour journey! This project has been a valuable experience that helped me become more reflective, organized and work better. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by clutter or disorganization, start small! One simple change at a time can make a big difference!

Organize on!

Steven
