The Organizational Process
Hi everyone!
This week I focused on creating my tool organization system. I did a lot of research online and at Home Depot, so I am ready to put my plan into action. First, I had to clear out my tool area and take some images of the space before making any changes. It helped me visually see how disorganized the space had become and how to organize the tools better.
Next, I accurately measured the space and decided where to put the organizational system in my garage. I sorted my tools into groups and decided where different tools should go based on how often I use them. This step took a lot longer than I expected but I now have a clear idea of what storage I actually need.
One of the main things I learned this week is that creating an organizational system takes much more time and planning than I initially thought. I had to think of how often I used each tool, where I would place each item and how to make sure that the space does not become messy again. It was a lot more work than just putting tools away.
A challenge I faced this week was deciding where everything should go. Some tools could fit in more than one spot, so I had to think what made most sense for my space and how often I use them. I also had to work around a small space which meant I could not create the large organizational systems I saw online.
Before the next Genius Hour session, I plan to finish creating my organizational system and organizing and placing tools. I think it is also a good idea to label some areas so that I remember where they belong. My main question moving forward is how to make sure the space stays organized over time and not let it slowly become disorganized again.
Overall, this week helped me move from planning to doing. It felt good to finally start building something and see real progress in my garage.
Thanks for following along!
Steven
