The Organizational Process

Hi everyone! This week I focused on creating my tool organization system. I did a lot of research online and at Home Depot, so I am ready to put my plan into action. First, I had to clear out my tool area and take some images of the space before making any changes. It helped me visually see how disorganized the space had become and how to organize the tools better.  Next, I accurately measured the space and decided where to put the organizational system in my garage. I sorted my tools into groups and decided where different tools should go based on how often I use them. This step took a lot longer than I expected but I now have a clear idea of what storage I actually need.  One of the main things I learned this week is that creating an organizational system takes much more time and planning than I initially thought. I had to think of how often I used each tool, where I would place each item and how to make sure that the space does not become messy again. It was a lot more work...

Research Time!

Hi everyone! This week, I spent my Genius Hour time researching and planning possible designs to organize my tool space. I looked through a lot of online articles, photos and watched videos on YouTube of home garage organization setups. It was useful to see how different organizational systems worked in different spaces. I also went to Home Depot to look at tool organizations options in person. This helped me better understand the size and practicality of different storage systems. My goal was to find a system that holds the tools I use most often and that fit in my space. After researching organizational tool systems, I learned that the most effective tool spaces keep tools visible and easy to access. Most of the examples I saw grouped tools together based on type and how frequently they are used. This is an important factor to me when choosing a system. I need to be able to quickly identify and grab the right tool to save time during a project.  There are so many organizat...

Hello everyone!  Welcome to my Genius Hour blog! In this blog, I will share posts, photos and presentations as I work through my project from start to finish!   My Genius Hour question is: How can I design a tool organization system that helps me locate and identify my tools faster?   I chose this topic because I work with tools everyday as an electrician and use them a lot as a home owner. On job sites, staying organized saves time and makes my job easier. It is important to me to have an organized tool space at home.   I haven’t had much time to keep my tool space organized. As family life has gotten busier, my tool space has become more cluttered and harder to manage. Last summer, I tried to complete a few projects around the house and spent way too much time looking for tools. This made my projects more time consuming then they should have been.   My goals for this project are to keep my tool space organized, find my tools faster and cre...
